Objective: Place film technology and technique into a historical context
Relationship to SOI: Understanding the historical development of camera technology deepens the understanding of the camera as a story telling tool.
Students will create a 5 minute montage of scenes from various films from different time periods with a voice over evaluating the camera movement and framing of a scene in regards to the director's intentions.
Use vocabulary from the first workshop
Use the Spark Charts Film Studies website as a guide.
Find between 3 and 7 scene examples of camera movement from different historical film eras and describe how the technique is utilized.
What were the director's intentions in choosing this technique and did they achieve their aims and why?
Why was the technique chosen by the director in regards to his/her societal, cultural, historical, or personal contexts and the technological constraints of his/her time?
